Went to Dr. Waitze for a second opinion after having an injection done at UCONN for sciatica pain. The pain started at my hip and went down my left leg into my heel. I felt no reprieve for almost 9 months. I initially thought it was my hip, so I went to see a hip specialist. He referred me to a spine surgeon, who I saw at UCONN. He started me on anti-inflammatories, which did nothing. I also tried Prednisone, which did nothing. He said surgery was most likely a last resort and didn't think I needed it. He suggested a cortisone injection, which doesn't work for everyone, and it did not work for me. So, no relief but a $2000 bill!

After waiting it out for another few months, I started chiropractic care, which was nothing but a money grab. The doctor misdiagnosed me and the pain became worse after a month of 3x a week adjustments. I was in such agonizing pain that I couldn't stand, sit, lay down or sleep. The best relief I got was laying flat on our hardwood floor. Not a way to live!

Finally decided to see a neurosurgeon. I did NOT want to have surgery, but I felt a second opinion was needed. My girlfriend, who's a nurse, found NOSS and Dr. Waitze. I booked an appointment, and he scheduled me for an MRI. I had 2 MRIs about 6 months apart. The second MRI showed an increase in disc herniation L5-S1. I was in so much pain that I could barely make it through the 2nd MRI, but I fought through. Basically my sciatic nerve was wrapped around the herniation. We planned for the surgery and a date was set. The NOSS staff went through EVERYTHING in preparation for surgery. The PAs were very nice and helpful. Dr. Waitze's assistant was also very helpful. If I had any complaint, it would be having to leave messages a lot and having to wait for responses. BUT, I understand we're in a pandemic, and they are busy. Every doctor's office is busy!

Dr. Waitze is an extremely nice guy. He explained everything in detail and seemed to genuinely care. He even seemed bummed he couldn't help me at the initial visit but assured me of complete relief with surgery. Fast forward 6 months, and I'm back at the gym, hiking and pain free. My heel feels a little funny every now and then, but the pain is GONE. Thanks Dr. Waitze!

I've referred a few people to his office, so I really hope they get relief. Dr. Waitze is a great doctor, and I would highly recommend!
