BLUF: Do your homework before you go to the passport office.
Surprised to find an expired passport for a trip later this month so needed expedited passport processing. Did the Wednesday walk-in at the City Passport acceptance office downtown. Pay parking was abundant and close by but expensive. Consider using the Trolley which has a stop in front of the office. Arrived at 7:35 a.m. and was first in line which was orderly and modest in length. For security purposes, had to remain outside until the office opened at 8:00 a.m. so you may want a sweater or jacket as fall weather arrives. A volunteer came out about 20 mins before opening to review paperwork and answer questions and was quite helpful. Despite 3 days prep online, I had the wrong form (DS-82 instead of DS-11) so she provided me with the right one, loaned me a clipboard, and reviewed my packet. Bring a black ink pen in case you need to re-do any of your forms--"blue won't do". While the office can help you with photos (for a modest fee) and completing paperwork, two separate payments will be required. One is for the Department of State (DOS) (in my case a $130 passport fee, $60 expedited handling fee, and $21.36 expedited return mailing fee). DOS fees must be made with a personal or cashier's check--they cannot be made with a credit or debit card. The DOS web site has a calculator to determine the fee based upon services sought. A second payment will be made to the City Treasurer for application processing, photos (as required), and expedited mailing of your application to DOS (if required). Payment of the City portion may be made with cash, check, debit or credit card. Actual processing time at the passport office was only about 30 mins (including a requisite photo). All-in-all, the process was polite and perfunctory. I'm still damned if I can find a Form DS-11 online...

I would avoid coming here, they’re looking for ways to grab more money. I had a fine passport picture but until I had to change agents because the other one left they made me pay to get a picture with them that was taken with a cheap little camera and my skin was extremely lightened and hair covering my ears. I’m not sure if it’ll get accepted.

Very quick and helpful service. Helped right on time with an appointment. Appointments appear each day for the open appointments over two weeks. A little tricky to schedule if you work 9 to 5. Everyone that helped me was very nice. Be sure you arrive prepared and that really helps you get it done.
Easy building to find and access. If you want to pay for parking, lot #28 that serves City Hall and Civic Center puts you a very short walking distance from the front of the building.
